NEW BATTLE DRESS

FOR N.Z. TROOPS

NO BUTTONS SHOWING

An opportunity' to inspect one of the new battle-dress uniforms which will be issued to the Third Echelon of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. when they enter camp was given a "Post" representative this week. One of the staff of the Ordnance Corps, Trentham, where the uniforms are being prepared for issue, obliged by donning the new outfit. ,- Consisting of a 'lumber jacket type of tunic fastened at the waist, loosefitting trousers strapped at the ankle, and short canvas gaiters, it has the appearance of considerable comfort and serviceability. There is no coat or lapels to catch in anything. A striking feature, and one that will no doubt appeal to the soldiers, is that no buttons are visible except on the shoulder straps. All other buttons fasten under flaps of the same material as the uniform. A neat glengarry, type of cap is worn when the protection of a steel helmet is not required. The uniform is fitted with a series of special pockets to accommodate some of the gear previously attached to the web equipment. On the left leg of the trousers is a deep pocket for bombs. A small pocket on the right thigh holds the field dressing. There are also- breast pockets, on the tunic and a hip pocket in the trousers.
