THEFT AT DANCE
Jointly charged with the theft of 5s 6d in money, the property of Rosina Hollis, three' men, Victor Frederick Weaver^ a. labourer, aged 26, Joseph Celestine Revellj- a labourer, aged 23, and! John Gordon Banks Dunlop; ;;. a labourer, aged 20; appeared before Mr. A. •M. Goulding, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, punlop was alsQ charged with receiving 4s from Weaver, knowing it to have been stolen. The police alleged that Miss Hollis had left her bag on a seat during a dance at the Trades Hall, that Weaver and Revell had'- sat down beside it, and the money had been extracted, ilt was also alleged that at a' later stage, after being accused of the theft,. Weaver had passed 4s over to Dunlop, but had been observed. The accused all' pleaded not guilty, but convictions were entered in each case. Weaver and Revell, who were stated to have had previous convictions, were.'each sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. Dunlop was adirj.tted^ to probation for 12 months on the theft 'charge, a condition being that "he refrain from attending dances -at the; Trades Hall during" that period. On' the receiving charge he was convicted and dis--charged.
