Recent events have caused the City to revise earlier optimistic estimates of subscriptions to the £300,000,000 war loan. While over-subscription is still expected, many forecast that dealings will begin at a small discount. :
It appears certain that 3 per cent, will be the maximum and not the minimum rate for financing the war. Consequently investors will be driven to seek' better yields which can be obtained from Dominion and colonial issues, and even equities.
The Finnish calamity overshadowed the commodity markets. The price of rubber.declined by 1 l-16d.
The 3 per cent. £300,000,000 war loan was issued .at par, for periods varying from 15 to 19 years.
