A Secret Debate.

When the French Chamber of Deputies debated the war at a secret session last month, there were some curious features of the affair. First, M. Daladier, the , Prime Minister, asked for the debate, but wanted it to be held in public, because it was to be about his war policy and he thought that a secret session might have a bad effect on the army and on public morale.

The Chamber, however, insisted on secrecy by a vote of 262 to 227, a major reason for this being that M. Leon Blum demanded the. course. All nonmembers save official stenographers, who are sworn to secrecy, were ushered out of the Chamber and guards were posted at every door. ,

Eleven former Communist deputies also were absent from the debate. They are allowed to continue to sit in the Chamber because they have disavowed any connection with Moscow, but decided to stay fliway in case they were blamed for way leakages after.Wards.
