REPORT TO BOARD
Having lost 20 men as a result of enlistment in the New Zealand Forces, the Superintendent of the. Wellington Fire Brigade, Mr. C. A. Woolley, expressed a desire at the Fire Board's j meeting today to reinforce the brigade strength by the appointment of six extra auxiliary men and a reserve auxiliary of twelve men to take the; place of those who were leaving to serve in the Army. He did not propose to withhold permission to men to enlist so long as [there was a supply of men available Ito take their places, he said, 8 and he i urged' the board to consider replacements. Mr. G. C. Edwards said the brigade had to look ahead. None knew how long the war' was going to. last nor how many men would be taken from the service of the board. Mr. Woolley said the brigade had been short of permanent men for some time. As the suggestions in the Superintendent's report involved important poiicy points, a proposal advanced by the chairman, Mr. S. S. Dean, to circulate the report among board members prior to consideration at next meeting was adopted.
