FAIR TO CLOUDY
NORTH-WESTERLY WINDS ...
Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-wester-ly winds. A shower or two possible, but the weather will be mainly fair to cloudy and mild. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for south-westerly winds over parts of the South Island, but elsewhere northerly to westerly directions will predominate. Winds will be strong at times in some exposed positions from Cook Strait southwards, but otherwise they will be light to fresh in force. I In. western areas and in Southland the weather will be cloudy 'to overcast with some scattered rain, but more especially in the far south-west. A few showers will extend to eastern areas of the South Island also, but otherwise the weather will be fair to fine. Temperatures in the south will be cooler, while elsewhere they will be mild to warm. The anticyclone has made slow movement eastwards and was centred this morning over the North Island. At the same time a series of shallow disturbances has advanced from th-3 southern Tasman Sea on to the south of New Zealand. Winds yesterday morning were light and variable, but freshening northerlies soon became general from Cook Strait southwards. This morning, however, there was a change to moderate southerlies over the ' eastern part of ptago. Scattered rain fell last night in the far south and south-west, Fuysegur Point reporting | a fall of 30 points, but the weather otherwise, except for patches of morning fog or low cloud, has been fair to fine and mild. Auckland had a fine and sunny day yesterday with-a light northerly wind. Temperatures were warm, with a maximum and minimum of 71.7 and 56 degrees respectively. Thre was no wind this morning and the weather was fine. The morning in Wellington was cloudy, but the sky soon cleared and the afternoon was sunny and warm with a light northerly breeze. Nine hours of bright sunshine were recorded, and temperatures ranged between 67.6 and 55.3 degrees. It was cloudy again this morning, the wind being a light northerly. Christchurch also had a mild and sunny day, a fresh north-easterly wind dropping in the evening. The maximum temperature was 64,9 degrees and the minimum 52.3 degrees. (The wind this morning had turned to the north-west and the weather was cloudy. It was fine and sunny in Dunedin too, the wind in the morning being a moderate north-easterly and in the afternoon a light northerly. It was again fine this morning. WEEKEND PROSPECTS. Wellington's weather during the initial part of the weekend is likely to be fair to cloudy and mild, with a possible shower or two and with moderate to strong north-westerly winds. Before Monday, however, there is likely to be a southerly change accompanied by some rain.
