DEFENSIVE ALLIANCE
TO GUARANTEE PACT
A SWEDISH SUGGESTION
(Received March 14, 1 p.m.)
LONDON, March 13.
British newspapers all pay tribute to the heroism of the Finns, and Scandinavian papers, recognise the effect of the peace terms upon Norway and Sweden.
A Swedish paper says that to escape the contempt of the world for its passive attitude, Sweden's policy must now take a more positive form and a defensive military alliance must be concluded with Finland to guarantee the present pact.
■ Another Swedish paper says that Finland's affair is Sweden's affair. Only a military pact between the northern States could give security for the future.
Russia and Germany express great satisfaction with the treaty and the German propaganda-makers have tried to use the treaty as an excuse to attack the Allies. The Nazis deny M. Daladier's statement that an Allied expeditionary force has been standing by ready to leave for Finland.
