FINE, BUT WINDY

Special forecast for Wellington:— Gradually freshening northerly winds. Weather fine and mild.

The general forecast for the twentyfour hours from noon today is for light to moderate winds, rather variable, but with northerlies predominating from Cook Strait southwards and gradually freshening. The weather for the most part will be fair to fine, but with some morning fogs or low cloud. Conditions will become unsettled tomorrow, however, in the south-western portion of the South Island.

The anticyclone over the Tasman Sea has continued to move slowly eastwards and this morning covers the Dominion, while pressure has fallen very considerably over South-eastern Australia. A slight secondary disturbance moved slowly northwards over the central province yesterday. It was accompanied by fresh southerly winds and extensive banks of cloud, but fortunately did not cause any rain. Otherwise winds have been south-west or easterly in direction and moderate to fresh in force, while the weather has been fair .to fine with moderate to mild temperatures. This morning, however, winds are light to moderate and rather variable with southerlies predominating over the North Island and northerlies over the South. The weather continues to be fine with mild temperatures. A moderate south-westerly wind blew in Auckland yesterday, the weather being cloudy but fine. Temperatures were moderate with a maximum of 70.8 degrees and a minimum of 55.8 degrees. This morning conditions are fair and there is no wL»d.

Wellington had a warm, sunny morning yesterday with a light northerly wind. About midday, however, a cool southerly change, occurred and the sky clouded over. The maximum temperature rose to 71.6 degrees, while the minimum was 46.9 degrees, and 8.4 hours of sunshine were recorded. Today the weather is cloudy and warm with a light northerly wind. It was foggy in Christchurch eariy yesterday morning but soon cleared and the rest of the day was fine and sunny with a light north-east breeze. Temperatures were moderate, the maximum 63.9 degrees and the minimum 52.8. This morning the sky is cloudy with a moderate north-easterly. Conditions in Dunedin were bright anr» sunny yesterday with a moderate to fresh south-westerly wind. Today, is again fine, the wind having changed to a light northerly.
