PROPHETIC VERSE PLAY.

Regarded as one of the finest expositions of English literature in the spirit of patriotism, "Philip of Spain" (John Masefield), has been done recently by the Gregan McMahon Players of Melbourne. This prophetic verse play depicts, in its opening scene, Philip II praying for the' victory. of "rthe great Armada and the destruction of England. There appear before him visions of men he has sacrificed to satisfy his ambition for world power. All foretell his doom, but Philip-hears only the bells of the city expressing the wisttful hope of England's speedy defeat. Suddenly, the paeans of anticipated victory cease and a messenger proclaims Drake's victory over the Armada and the final destruction of Philip's ambitions. Lending itself to spectacular presentation, the work has significant prophecy under existing world conditions. ' -
