MAGISTRATE'S COURT
A sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed upon Sheila Kathleen MacKenzie, a domestic, aged 27, who appeared before Mr. W. ff. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, charged with the theft of a wrist watch valued at £8. The Magistrate said that the probation officer had been unable to recommend probation. '-■ . .
Daisy Wright, a domestic, aged 34, who was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond in that she had insufficient lawful means of support, was convicted and sentenced to four months' imprisonment. On charges of drunkenness and breach of a prohibition order she was convicted and discharged.
"You have ' taken advantage of a blind man, and this is a despicable theft," said the Magistrate to Harvey Ashworth, a labourer, aged 24, who pleaded guilty to the theft ofi £2 in money, the property of a blind man by whom he was employed as an escort. Ashworth was convicted and sentenced to three months' imprisonment. The accused said he could not resist the temptation, and acted on the spur of the moment.
