DISPLAY BY BANDS.

Tomorrow at Athletic Park fourteen bands belonging to the Wellington Bands Association and the champion pipe band of the Dominion will give the, Octagonal Serpentine Marching Display in aid of the metropolitan patriotic funds. These displays have a big following in Wellington, Palmerston North, and Wanganui, where they have been held under the supervision of Mr. Gladstone Hill, president of the Wellington Association. Tomorrow the gates of Athletic Park will be open at 1 o'clock, and the first band to parade will be on the mark at 2.30. A special feature of the afternoon will be the drum-major's display by the Ruahine Highland Pipe Band, champions of New Zealand. This band, under DrumMajor Alex. Sturrock, gave a most spectacular marching exhibition at the recent Pipe Bands contest, and this will be repeated tomorrow. In addition the Wellington Boys' Institute Band, winners of the B grade championship of the Dominion, will play "Waiata Poi," conducted by Mr. Gladstone Hill, as guest-conductor. This famous Maori song by Alfred Hill was arranged by Mr. Gladstone Hill for the Woolston Band to play at Sydney, Melbourne, and Ballarat in 1934. Eight brass and military bands and seven pipe bands will take part tomorrow. Details are advertised.
