NATIONAL TITLES

PUBLIC SERVICE MEETING

Probably no gathering hvas ever been j held in New Zealand previously aty which so many present aiid past New \ Zealand and provincial atihletic cham- j pions have been brought; together as will be the case at the Bsisin Reserve on Monday, when the Public Service national amateur athletic? championships are to be held. The championship competition has been modelled on the lines of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association meeting, which Monday's fixture follows ais an added big Centennial athletic attraction. There are six centres represented, namely Auckland, West Coast (North Island), Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay. Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago, and . the personnel' of their teams j is such as to indicate a very high standard of competition. Names, :for example, ,which are well known; in national athletic competition are those of V. P. Boot, J. N. McCarthy, G. Qiiinn, all of Wellington, A. O. Dare (Auckland), W. J. Batstone (Canterbury?), J. G. Barnes and A. R. Geddes (Otago), and in addition there are. numerous provincial representatives and champions. ■■■ ■

In all over 2QO athletes will be,competing, and the meeting in every way should prove a very acceptable contribution by the Public Service to the Centennial sports attractions in'- this city Besides the athletic events there are aiso cycling championships. The meeting is to start at 11 o'clock in the morning, and, after an interval for lunch, will be continued throughout the afternoon.
