WANGANUI CENTENNIAL BALL

(Special to the "Evenlna Post.")

The beautiful Sarjeant Art Gallery made a "wonderful-setting for Wanganui's Centennial Ball on Thursday night, and ten debutantes were presented on this memorable occasion. The gallery was floodlit outside, and inside the lovely lighting effects added further beauty to the decorations and dresses.

Many mirrors reflected the masses of magnificent blooms, arranged,, by Mrs.csH. L. Widdowson and her helpers, Mesdames D. Christie, F. Hujtahison, D. Wilson, and C. R. DaVies. Supper was served in the Savage Club Hall, where again the decorations were a feature, Mrs.' J. Dixon and Mesdames C. Linwood, E. G. Roddy, and M. N. Campbell and Misses G. Izard and E. "Craig being the decorators. The ball committee comprised Mesdames Mi B. Hirst, W. L. Widdowson, F. E: Smith, Messrs. D. W. Earle; H. Cumhiing, C. W. Hawke, J* R. Keenian, J. McFarlane, B. Dobbs, S. G. Smith.

Miss Trevor Hunter presented old world gavottes and quadrilles danced by Mesdames B. Haworth, N. Bancks, Misses M. Todd, P. Hutton, B. Adams, J. O'Neill, S. and G. Izard, M. Peck, J. Sfrouts, M. Strode-Penny, and S. Nancarrow. Six wore pink pannier frocks, all lace and silver, and six wore; magenta jackets braided in green-and gold, with green breeches, lace ruffles, and all wore white wigs. DEBUTANTES. There' were, ten • debutantes,' who were presented to the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and M*s. W. J. Rogers, Misses M. Hamling; A. Webster, T. Dandy, R. Bruntlett, 8., Smith, M. Smith, M. Jones, N. Merriej M.: Harris, and M. Sanders. :

Mrs. D. W. Earle was hostess and presented the debutantes. '■
