GRAIN AND SEED MARKETS

Grain and produce markets in Christchurch have shown little change this week. Most of the wheat harvest has been handled, except some of the stacked grain, and that is being held for the increment which goes on to the price next month. Offerings of ryei grass are still scarce and merchants are prepared to pay up to 7s for choicest lines. Two poor seasons in succession have made supplies of good ryegrass exceptionally short. Last seaison germination tests showed poor results and this season the crop was, affected by the dry autumn. The rains came too late to save many areas for seed. Only odd lines of cocksfoot are offering yet, and these continue to be of very light weight. Growers who have better seed seem content to hold it in the meantime in the hope of securing higher prices.
being done in Marthas at 8s 8d to 8s 9d and Waihi Investment at 7s 3d to 7s 33d. Dredging shares dealt in were Arahuras at 38s and Ngahere at 29s 2d to 29s 3d. Grey Rivers sold at 19s. Fiji was represented in sales of Emperor Mines at 16s 2d. Australian mine shares were steady with Electrolytic Zinc at 62s and 63s for pref. Mount Lyells had sold at between 35s 3d and 35s lid, but ciosed at 355. Broken Hill South made 31s 6d. Mount Morgans varied between 10s 8d and 10s lid.
