CRICKET

VETERANS' MATCH

LOCAL ASSOCIATION MEETS

Some of New Zealand's finest cricketers will be seen in action next Saturday, when the annual match between an eleven representing the Wellington Cricket Association and a

veterans' side will be played at the

Basin Reserve. Arrangements in connection with the game were discussed at last night's meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Association.

The following teams were anlounced:—

Veterans' Team.—D. C. Collins (captain), F. W. Gilligan, H. N. Lambert, W. A. Baker, A. Bruce, W. S. Brice, E. O. Blamires, W. A. Aldersley, J. E. Banks, A. E. Donoghue, and H. M. McGirr.

Wellington Eleven.—J. R. Sheffield, E. J. Aim, E. C. Wiren,,W. Barclay, C. K. Parsloe, A. M. Hollings* W. J. R. Christophersen. H. Foley, S. Betts, .A. W. Duncan (captain), and L. J. Brabin.

The team to represent Wellington in the annual match against the Auckland veterans, in Auckland, will be selected following Saturday's game.

The chairman, Mr. J. H. Phillipps, said that he had conferred with Mr. W. R. Fea, chairman of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association, regarding a trophy for this inter-provincial game. It had been decided-that the two associations should share in the cost of a trophy, to be known as the Centennial Cup. It would be competed lor annually between the two associations at the same time as the Plunket Shield games between ' the two centres.

The Hawke's Bay Cricket Association wrote that it was anxious to have a Wellington eleven take part in the Centennial celebrations in Napier, and March 1 and 2 were suggested as the dates for the match.

It was decided to instruct the selector to choose a team to make the trip to Napier on the dates selected, and to inform the Wellington players chosen that they would have to bear the bulk of the travelling and hotel expenses.

The director of parks and reserves advised that the Basin Reserve would be available on March 23 and 25 for the match for the Gannet Cup between a Wellington junior eleven and a senior team from the Hastings Club.
