U.S. PRESIDENCY
ENTRANTS IN PRIMARIES
FARLEY STARTS CAMPAIGN
(Received February 12, 10 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, February 11,
Mr. J. R. Farley, Postmaster-General and head of the Democrat Party machine, has authorised the beginning of his Presidential campaign in Massachusetts. This is interpreted in Republican circles to mean that he is likely later to turn over his delegates to Mr. Roosevelt.
Mr F. La Guardia, Mayor of New York, repudiated the entry made on his behalf by the Illinois Republican primaries in which other entrants are Mr. Tom Dewey, New York district attorney, and Congressman Hamilton Fish.
Last month the "Dewey for President" committee announced that it had received so many offers of support from outside New York that it had been determined to enter Dewey's name in the Republican primaries in States where there was not an approved candidate offering. Mr. James Farly is commonly regarded as a close friend of President Roosevelt and a firm supporter.
