SURF LIFE-SAVING

DOMINION TITLES

TO BE HELD AT LYALL BAY

The entries for the New Zealand Centennial Surf Life-saving Championships, to be held at Lyall Bay on February 16. 17. and 18. are surprisingly heavy in view of the number of swimmers who have enlisted. This is due to a great increase in the number of juniors attending. These boys are some of. the large number in training to replace the seniors in the work .of keeping beaches safe. '.

Twenty-three clubs, from Auckland's [North Shore to Southland's Oreii, will be... represented, some by individual entries, others by one or more teams in each of the twelve championship events This is probably the widest entry ever, to . come to. the championships, and the growth of importance of the nationalv titles; is indicated by such a response when enlistments have actually wiped out some organisations. Wellington heads the list with six clubs (Lyall.Bay, Maranui. Titahi Bay, Paekakariki. Island Bay, and- Worser Bay). Next is Auckland, whose five clubs include two girls* teams (Waitemata and Milford), as well as entries from Piha, Waitemata, and North Shore. Taranaki is sending New, Plymouth Old Boys, Ohawe, Fitzroy. and East-End, and the Castlecliff- -Club (Wanganui) ,has a heavy entry. From Canterbury. New Brighton; Taylor's Mistake. Sumner, and North Beach, are. coming. Otago is sending St. Clair and an Oreti man. and Greymouth'-Hat one. team.
