VESTFOLD WHALING RESULTS.
The net profit for the year ended July 31 last of the Vestfold Whaling Company amounted, after providing for depreciation, to £2452. compared with a loss of. £4159 for the previous twelve months. The sum of £18,539 (£52,676) was brought in, giving an available balance of £20;991 (£48,516). A final dividend of 3 per cent. (5 per cent.) is proposed on the ordinary shares, making 6 per cent. (10 per cent.) for the year, leaving £4787 to be carried forward. The report stated that whaling operations were restricted to the period December 8, 1938, to March 7, 1939. which was one week less than in the previous season. The expedition was also hampered by unsatisfactory weather conditions and shortage of whales. The production of whale oil totalled 11,005 tons (19,590 tons), which was disposed of at just under £15 net (£l3 net). Whaling restrictions will apply to the 1939-40 season for the same period as in the past season.
