THE WAR SUPPORTED

UNION'S RESOLUTION

SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES CONDEMNED

A resolution strongly supporting the Empire's war effort and condemning the activities of all pacifists and "anticonscription opportunists" has been passed by the National Council of the Federated Saddlers, Bagmakers, Canvas Workers, Umbrella Workers,. Sailmakers, Riggers, and Related Trades. The resolution recommends "that . all affiliated members stand steadfastly behind Parliament and the Government in their effort, in conjunction with other parts of the British Empire, in supporting Britain and France to the uttermost of their resources in the war against German aggression, and in defence of the freedom and self-deter-mination of small nations and the establishment of international peace and security founded on justice and democracy.

"We further call upon all members to oppose any and all subversive organisations or individuals whose activities are a challenge to the. will and authority pi the Parliament of this country, realising as we do that the British Empire is now fighting for its existence, and knowing full well that when the British Commonwealth of Nations is gone, New Zealand and all its advanced social legislation will .be gone also.

"We sincerely urge members to remember that those who are not with us in this conflict are not only against us, but.are to all intents and purposes allied to Hitler and the enemies of our present social order and civilisation. Their Press and platform propaganda, aimed as it is at destroying Government effort in recruiting, and the withdrawal of New Zealand from the war, if it were successful could end only in national disaster, and the subjugation of our Dominion to Nazi rule.

"Take warning. Be ye not misled by pacifists, be they termed Christian or otherwise, nor fooled by the babble of anti-conscription opportunists. Quit ye yourselves like men in this war. The battle is one for the welfare of mankind the world over."
