FIGHT AT CABARET
FIVE MEN FINED
Five men appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesterday as a result of a disturbance at the Majestic; Cabaret.
! Joseph Lane, a labourer, aged 30, pleaded guilty, before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., to fighting, Benjamin Gouttman, a labourer, aged 23, pleaded guilty to fighting, Norman Charles Laws, a battery worker, aged 27, to fighting. Lawi rence Boyer, a salesman, aged, 26, to fighting and resisting Constables W. Friend and : J. J. N. McCarthy in the execution oi their duty, and Alexander James Millar, a factory hand, aged 27, to fighting, resisting Constable Friend in the execution of his duty, and to wilfully damaging a suit coat to the extent of 10s. Each was convicted and fined £2 for fighting, and Millar was ordered to make good the damage. to the coat. Boyer and Millar were convicted and discharged on the charges of resisting the police.
Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan said that the men participated in a general fight and brawl at the Majestic Cabaret about 11 p.m. on Thursday, the police were sent for, and the men arrested. During the course of the arrest a constable's coat was damaged.
"I suppose there is not much . you can say for yourselves," said the Magistrate. "You know you have no right to make nuisances 6f yourselves by brawling at a cabaret." ;
