PRIVATE SHIPBUILDING
(Received February 8, 11.20 am.)
LONDON, February 7.
The First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. Winston Churchill, replying to a question in the House of Commons, said the scheme under which the Admiralty is responsible for all mercantile shipbuilding and repairs does not include the transfer of all shipbuilding and repair establishments to the Government. It was not intended to prevent private shipbuilding, and the Admiralty was issuing licences for this purpose.
