BALKAN CONFERENCE

HUNGARIAN ATTACK

RUMANIAN "PROVOCATION"

LONDON, February 6.

The Hungarian newspaper "Pester Lloyd" prints a Government-inspired attack against Rumania and the Balkan conference. This, however, is not regarded as portending a change in Hungarian foreign policy.

The newspaper states that Hungary never favoured a Balkan-Danube bloc, because greater Powers could misinterpret it as an offensive measure and Hungary could not be expected to join Powers one of which adopted a provocative policy.

A message from Athens states that the Prime Minister, General Metaxas, declared that even the Balkan countries outside the Entente will approve of the attitude of the member States. Bulgaria can be considered to be an adherent to the peace group, assuring tranquillity throughout the Balkans.
