AUCKLAND DOCK SITE
COMMUNIST MEETING
{By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
The Harbour Board has decided that the old dock site, where a crowd of over 2000 attended a lively meeting addressed by Communists on Sunday last, will not be available for future open-air meetings.
The chairman of the board, Mr. W. B. Darlow, said today that a pamphlet had been circulated stating that a meeting had been called for next Sunday.
"The board is not concerned with a popular controversy regarding freedom of speech," said Mr. Darlow, "and has no desire to be implicated in a question that is obviously beyond its jurisdiction. The people of the Empire are faced with problems that call for unity, tolerance, and good will. I would be sorry to see anything done that might kindle a torch. I feel sure that the citizens who called this meeting will make other arrangements."
