The -Garman transocean news se** vice on ; January 27 contained a report relating to the dismissar from the ; service of Wing-commander J: C, P. ' Wood and, references to what "were ' described as rumours prevalent in London? that Mr. Wood had been dismissed from the service "because he failed to carry out an ordered action in ttve Heligoland Bight, freaking off a flight prematurely. r and submitting, nevertheless, on-his return a. report' claiming successes which, turned ",out to be untrue when1 other_ air ' force * officers were questioned."^ ' "- : {
Inquiries •at the Air Ministry disclosed complete ignorance of the. alleged rumours, and also the fact that Mr. Wood, took ho .part in. any :such action as was described. .■ *
