Special forecast for Wellington:—

Moderate northerly winds, freshening at times. Weather continuing muggy, with

occasional light rain or drizzle.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued.at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for a temporary south-westerly change later in Otago and Southland, but winds otherwise will be north-easterly to northerly in direction. Their force will be; mainly light to moderate, but winds will become strong at times in exposed positions north of Westport and Kaikoura. In eastern districts north of Otago the weather at first will be .mainly fair to fine, but elsewhere it will be dull and unsettled with drizzle or rain' at times, more especially in central districts and in the far north. Temperatures will be mild to warm.

Pressure has remained high to the east, while a complex system of depressions has continued to cross the Dominion. North-easterly to northerly winds prevailed over most of the, country yesterday morning. They were light to moderate in force, but freshened during the day' about and north of Cook Strait, while in much of the South Island there was a change to easterlies or southerlies. .' In western districts north of Nelson the weather was dull and humid with occasional rain. Over' the remainder of the country it was mainly fair to fine, although scattered rain extended at times to Marlborough and to, the eastern part of the North Island. During last night, however, there were heavier falls of rain in Westland. Taranaki, and the north. Cape Egmont reports the heaviest fall, one of 294 points, while Greymouth had 192 points and Russell' 93. Today in the south winds are light and variable, while elsewhere moderate to fresh northerlies are blowing. The weather is continuing dull and ..n----settled in western districts, with further rain, but otherwise it is fair to fine.

In Auckland it was overcast all yesterday with a fresh wind from the north-north-east. A light shower fell in the morning and there was further rain last night, 55 points being recorded up to 9 a.m. today. Temperatures were warm, 73.6 degrees being the maximum and 65.8 degrees the minimum. The wind today was still fresh and from the same quarter, the weather being ' dull with drizzling rain.

Wellington had a moderate northwesterly wind which Tecr^ased in the evening, and the weather was dull and humid with occasional light rain. There were further showers last night, bringing up the total rainfall to three points. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 73.9 and 63.4 degrees respectively. The weather this morning was cloudy and muggy with occasional rain.

Christchurch had a hot and sunny day, with a light northerly wind in the morning and a moderate easterly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature rose as high as 85.9 degrees, while the minimum last night was 55.4 degrees. It was dull this morning with but little wind.

Dunedin's' weather was fine with passing cloud and occasional sunshine, the wind being a moderate northeasterly. The weather this morning was dull with a light wind from the north-west. ,
