OF GREAT SIGNIFICANCE
The increased importance, of this year's anniversary of the Wellington Province to be celebrated on Monday was mentioned by the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon! W. E. Parry), in replying to a deputation today. The significance of the anniversary, he said, had probably not along many years been given the prominence it deserved among the people, but the event this year being bracketed with the National Centennial spurred interest in the celebrations to take place. "The elaborate plans made at Petone for bringing before the people of today an interesting representation of scenes of the youthful days of Wellington should make the occasion one to remember," said Mr. Parry. "There are happily, with us men and women whose forbears took a gallant and leading part in the making of this city which in the years that followed has made the remarkable progress dreamed of by its founders. Monday's celebrations should kindle the imagination of all who see them and inspire the nation to continued enterprise and achievement in the future."
