MERKUR STILL AGROUND

SYDNEY, January 18,

The Burns, Philp liner Merkur is still fast aground, on the coast of the Northern Territory. Attempts to tow her,, off the reef failed. The Tulagi and the Burns, Philp liner Marella are now standing by. The weather is calm and the Merkur is in no danger.

SOME PASSENGERS ABOARD

DARWIN, This Day

Forty-five .Darwin residents wno were5 passengers aboard the Merkur were brought to Darwin in another Burns, Philp steamer after being transhipped from the stranded liner in pearling luggers. Twenty-five oversea passengers remained aboard the Merkur.
