KILLED BY A CAR
SOLDIER FROM BURNHAM
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day, A private in the New Zealand Special Force at Burnham, Walter Corrigal Toy, son of Mr. W. W. Toy, of Lyttelton, died on Sunday eveniag from injuries he received when he was struck by a motor-car about a mile from Rolleston, on the Christchurch side. Toy was standing on the road holding up his hand to «stop a car travelling from the direction of Christchurch about 12.30 on Sunday morning when he was struck by another car approaching him from behind and travelling towards Christchurch. He suffered serious head injuries, and was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where he died about 8 o'clock on Sunday evening. -.
When she fell at her home at about 6.50 last night, Mrs. M. Bowden, 3 Tui Street, fractured ■ her left ribs. She was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. >
