POLISH AIRMEN
TO JOIN R.A.F.
SQUADRON TO BE ENTIRELY SELF-SUPPORTING
(British Official Wireless.) (Received December 16, 11.20 a.m.) RUGBY, December 15. A detachment of Polish airmen who have been training to become the first of several Polish squadrons to be incorporated in the British Air Force will don Royal Air Force uniforms tomorrow. These squadrons will be entirely self-supporting. The pilots, observers, gunners, wireless operators, and ground staff charged with the maintenance of aircraft will be exclusively Polish. The first detachment will include several ace pilots, and many of them have undergone exciting experiences since the war began. A sergeant was Drought down by the Germans during the fighting in Poland, and escaped !rom his own country after it had been jverrun by the enemy. The performances in the air of members of these Polish detachments have evoked en:husiasm and admiration of members >f the Royal Air Force, under whose lirection their final training has been ndertaken.
