CANCER CAMPAIGN
DOMINION'S EFFORTS \
PROGRESS REVIEWED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) . DUNEDIN, This Day,
The progress during the past tyear of the British Empire Cancer Campaign was reviewed at the annual meeting of the Otago-Southland division of the New Zealand branch by Sir Louis Barnett, -who stated that an immense amount of clinical information had been recorded regarding New Zealand patients. This research dealing with human beings was perhaps more important than a laboratory research on lower animals.
Auckland was the largest clinical depot, and since it had been, on Otago's suggestion, made the centre for statistical research, generous support had been given the campaign by the Auckland people. Laboratory ) research at Dunedin had latterly been in abeyance owing to the absence of the director, Dr. Begg, on study leave. Dr. Begg, who would return in a few months' time, had been continuing research work in association with the famous Dr. Gye, of Mill Hill. He reported that certain lines of research, dealing particularly with causative irritants', were leading to very encouraging conclusions.
Dr. F. S. Batchelor reported 595 consultations at the local clinic with the examination of 150 new malignant cases.
