TURF NEWS IN BRIEF
The two-year-old Locrian is not being taken to Woodville, as he is growing apace at present. Manawatu first-day weights are due to appear next Wednesday. Defy was not started at Feildmg, because it was feared she might break down, and she has now been sent out for a spell in the Wairarapa. It has been decided to retire the Some Spec mare Cushla's Last to the stud. Croupisino has now made a complete recovery from his bad cold, and it is hoped to give him his first race at Manawatu at Christmas. Beau Coureur has not furnished yet as it was hoped early in the season that he would, but if he goes on all right in the next fortnight he may go north with Beau Vite as a mate. _ There was more worth in Beau Vite's gallop with Alunga at Trentham yesterday than appeared in the time (which was the best of the morning) or in the ease with which he collected his companion in the straight. Mr. D. Stevens, of Palmerston North, has been' appointed starter to the Wairoa Racing Club. Mr. Stevens is also starter at Woodville and he is clerk of scales at Manawatu.
S. Wilson, who has been riding in something like his old form in his few recent mounts, will be attending the Manawatu and Wairarapa Meetings over the holidays. One of his engagements at Awapuni is likely to be Galteemore in ihe Manawatu Cup,
