ON TRENTHAM TRACKS
.WOODVILLE HORSES
BEAU VITE GALLOPS WELL
(By "Rangatira.")
Trentham stables will be very lightly represented at the Woodville Meeting on Saturday and Monday, and as a consequence there was not a deal of fast work, on the tracks this morning. The weather was fine and both the trial grass and the plough were in excellent order. The only horse from the centre now going north to Ellerslie this year is Beau Vite. Siegmund, who was taken to Feilding for. the final day as the result of a last-moment change of the schedule planned for him, is still to keep his Woodville engagement on Saturday, and he will be ridden again by G. R. Tattersall. He is doing' his Christmas racing at Awapuni. . His successful journey to Feilding did him no harm whatever, though his work this morning ' was only exercise. Prediction (S. Wilson) and Silver River (H. Duncan) both worked well over a mile on the grass in lmin 45£ sec, the last'half-mile in 51£ sec. Their owner, Mr. J. T. Spears, was present to see them work. Dainty Sue was given pacing only. Siglow, who is also among the Woodville entries, was not out on the track. Absolve (A. #. Newnham), who is to race next at Awapuni, worked half a mile easily the reverse way on the plough in 54sec. Enrich, who will not race till Wairarapa, is still doing only light tasks. Galteemore (P. Williams) beat Trench Law (Wilson) by a length, with Ruling Star (A. Foster) .half a length away, after a mile on thegrass in lmin 45sec, the last half-mile in 53sec. Galteemore, who is still too big to do himself full justice, is to be ridden on Saturday by Foster, and Trench Law will have the services of J. Lawler. Ruling Star's rider has not yet been decided. Pharisee (Wilson) was beaten a length by. Wakarara (R- Bucknell) over half a mile on the grass in 49i sec. Pharisee is Wilson's only mount to date for Woodville. « Among Jhe other horses to gallop, the best effort was that of the Ellerslie candidate Beau Vite (Wilson), who allowed Alunga (J. Hayes) to lead him early in their half-mile on the plough and readily drew level in the last furlong, his time being 48Jsec, a good gallop. On the same track Pearl of Asia (F. Warren) and Floral Robe (Lawler) ran five furlongs in lmin 7£sec, the last half-mile in 54sec. Royal Portrait (F. Boyer), who has improved a lot with racing, easily beat Coronado (Wilson) over half a mile, the last three furlongs after a slow start in 37sec. Debham (Bucknell), who is back after a month in the paddock and will next race in the high weights at Wairarapa, did half a mile in 49sec. Good Sun (H. Guppy), picked up by the two-year-old Blue Border (L. T. Nesbitt) at the half-mile, ran a mile in lmin 44sec, the last seven furlongs in lmin 30sec, and the last half-mile in 51£ sec. Globe Trotter (Wilson) did a round on the plough at about evens, the last seven furlongs in lmin 43sec. On the grass Beau Ciel (Lawler) finished a head in front of Beau Courier (Foster), with Maharajah (G. G. Robinson) a length back,, after traversing three furlongs in 35Jsec. Maharajah. is the Bulandshar—Choral colt in H. B. Lorigan's team. Croupisino (Foster) was going well a neck ahead of Kadina (Lawler) after taking 36sec. Balgowlah (Robinson) ran half a mile alone in 49Jsec. , 'Among the several owners present at thetracks to see their horses work this morning were Messrs. J. O'Brien (owner of Galteemore and Croupisino), R J. Murphy (owner of Beau Ciel), . and L. Wilkinson (owner of Floral Robe). ' ■ ■ •
