AERATED WATER INDUSTRY
A dispute between t the New Zealand Brewers', Bottlers', Bottlewashers', and Aerated Water Employees' Industrial Union of Workers and Thomson. Lewis, and other employers was heard in Wellington recently, Mr. M. J. Reardon, Conciliation Commissioner, presiding. It was the first time the workers in the industry had endeavoured to obtain a Dominion award, The Canterbury employers asked that the dispute be not applied to Canterbury, as they had already filed claims for a separata district award. The workers refused to agree to this. > The applicants asked for reduced hours, higher wages, an extension of the annual holidays, and an evening"*up of the general conditions in the various districts to be covered. 'The mattei'S agreed upon included the following clauses:—lnterpretation, overtime, holidays, including an.. an? nual holiday of seven working days, meal money and interval, and termination of employment with ttie usual machinery ' clauses. The clauses referred to the Court of Arbitration for settlement are:— Hours ' of work, wages of adults, youths,, and . females, proportion of youths to men, scope of award, and the term of the award. -■ :" .
