TRAINING YOUNG NAZIS
The political training schools for the youth of Germany, in which boys will receive intensive training in Nazi principles from the age of ten upwards are now being standardised, says "The Times." These schools, which are known as the National Political Educational Institutes (National-politische Evziehungsanstalten, or Napola for short), are described in an interview given to the "Volkischer Beobachter" by their "Inspector," S.S. Divisional Commander Heissmeyer. The aim of the institutes, he explains, is to substitute real education for ordinary academic teaching. The boys are selected from all the elementary schools, whose teachers will report their most promis- j ing youngsters to the local institute leader. In selecting the boys attention will be paid not" to their school certificates but to the general impression made by "the little fellows." School fees will be payable, but will be adjusted to the means of the parents. The final weeding-out of the candidates will be made by Heissmeyer himself after an eight to ten days' trial period in the spring. His veto may not be final, for rejected boys may still be accepted for a shorter term (the fuli period is for eight ye*ars) if they show signs of reaching the necessary standard later on. Every one of the teachers will have to divide his^ time between service at home and in the front line.
