This morning, her Excellency Ladyv Galway paid a visit to Miss Margaret Butler's sculpture studio on The Terrace. , .. Mr. H. R. H. Chalmers, general manager of the .Bank of New Zealand, left Wellington for the South Island last evening. Mr. A. L. Warburion, who has been jon an overseas trip, was welcomed back to the executive of the Automobile Association (Wellington) last evening after nine months' absence. Dr. S. J. Thompson, of Levin, replaced Mr. R. S. Mitchell, who resigned for business reasons. Mr. J. Gifford Male, Columbia Pictures Fty., Ltd., special representative,left for the north yesterday. Constable P. C. Boate, who has been stationed with the Wharf Police for the last three years, has left on trans-"" fer to Hastings. Passengers from the south by the steamer express this morning included Mr, W. W. Muiholland', Dominion president of the Farmers' Union, Mr. E. A. Rattray, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. S. Riddiford, and the Hon. F. Waite, M.L.C, the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., and the Hon. Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, accompanied by Mr. S. G. Holland, M.P., for ChristchurcH North. The Rev. Angus Mcßean, president of the Methodist Conference of New Zealand, who has been in the North Island to be present at the opening 01 new Methodist churches, including one at Porirua, is leaving tonight for his home at Ashburton. Mr. W. Tunley, who has been president of the Wellington Master Butchers' Association for many years, tendered his resignation on account of his leaving the trade at the annual meeting of thfe association last evening. Mr. E. D. Barber, vice-president. in acknowledging the good service rendered by Mi". Tunley to the master butchers dxr Wellington City and suburbs, presented Mr. Tunley with a gold wristlet watch as a token of the appreciation and esteem in which Mr." Tunley has been held by the master butchers in the district. Mr. Tunley, in reply, stated that for the past twenty years he had been associated with the master butchers of Wellington, and had enjoyed his association with them. Any assistance that he had been abit to render had afforded him the greatest pleasure. " ;. Mr.- F. C. Basire has been advised that he has been successful in passing the examination for admission to membership of the Town Planning Institute, London. Mr. Basire, who is a member Of the Institute of Surveyors and a councillor of the Town Planning Institute of New Zealand, recently resigned from the service of the Wellington City Corporation to accept a , town-planning appointment in the De- ' partment of Housing Construction.
