HOLIDAY CLOSING DATES
There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Wellington Master Butchers' Industrial Union of Employers on Monday evening. Mr. W. Tunley presided. The question of the closing of shops for the statutory holidays during the Christmas and New Year weeks was discussed, and it was decided that butchers who usually observe the Saturday half-holiday will close their shops at 12 noon on Saturday, the; 23rd, and Saturday, December 30. Shops will also be closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, and on Monday and Tuesday, January 1 and 2. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. Alf. \ Evans (Rongotai); vice-president, Mr. E. D. Barber; executive, Messrs. H. M. Harris, L. C. Whale, F. Reed, R. E. Barons, R. Crooks, G. Lamb, P. C. Luxford, S. F. Mayer\R. E. Munday, A. E. Preston, K. L. Read, G. Wood; hon. auditor, Mr. P. C. Luxford; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. J. Mountjoy. The holding of the annual conference of the New Zealand Master Butchers' Industrial Association of Employers was discussed, and it was unanimously resolved that the members of the Wellington Master Butchers' Association will do everything possible to, render whatever assistance may be necessary by way of entertaining the visiting delegates. The date of the conference has not yet been finalised, but it is expected that it will take place during the early part of February, 1940.
