THREE QUESTIONS FOR MR. NASH
MINISTER SAYS A THREAT WAS MADE
"I want to affirm to the conference that, in the opinion of the Government, the price now being paid is a fair one," said the. Minister of Marketing (the Hon. W.. Nash) yesterday afternoon, when replying to requests for an increase in the guaranteed price for butter and cheese from a conference of Dominion representatives of the dairy industry. Mr. Nash was presented with three questions " regarding the price for dairy products and the cost of production. He declined to answer .the questions without giving them consideration, and commented on the way they had been presented/to him without.previous notice. He also claimed that the statement presented to him by the conference was a thread, but this was . denied by -.- delegates, who said that they had merely endeavoured to convey, to him the unrest that existed in the industry and the probability- ' ,of some action being taken if the causes of that unrest were not removed. The chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board (Mr. ; 'W. "." E. Hale) presided. - ... Mr. Hale outlined the position of the dairy industry as it '' appeared to the delegates on lines similar to those followed by speakers earlier in the day. • ' ' •
