PILOTS CALLED UP

GUT IN AIR SERVICES

DOWN TO THRICE WEEKLY

Mainly because of the calling up of a number of Union Airways and Cook Strait Airways pilots, in addition to the taking over, earlier, of a number of the machines operated by both companies, commercial air services operating on trunk routes in New Zealand are to be further curtailed early next month. As from Saturday, December 2, Union Airways' service between Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin, now being maintained daily each way, will be reduced to three times a week, with no services on Sundays. The position may' be inevitable, but the loss of the daily services will have a considerable effect upon business travel and mailing.. It is interesting to'note that in Britain commercial services are being maintained fairly well- to schedule, in spite of war conditions and

demands, and the overseas Empire services, though reduced, are carrying on; there is, for instance, a twice weekly service from London to Sydney.

As at present, the southbound machine will call at New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Wellington, and Christchurch, and similar calls will be made by northbound machines. The present schedule, observed by the daily Aucklarid-Dunedin service, will be adhered to.
