TE RAPA NEWCOMERS
DEBUT OF ROYAL DESCENT
(Special from "Early Bird.")
AUCKLAND, November 17. Erination, who by his deeds among the hurdlers in the north has proved himself one of the best seen out in this branch for many years, is still a maiden on the flat, and it will not be surprising to find him.starting in the Frankton Handicap at Te Rapa on Monday. This event is for horses that have never won a fiat race of the value of over £35.
In the Matangi Hurdles at Te Rapa on Monday there will be cue fresh jumper in Loombination, who scored his initial success over the battens on this track last season, and he should prove a useful second string to his ■stablemate Erination in coming jumping events. Loombination has not raced this season, but has previously gone well fresh. With summer conditions prevailing h. the north, it is not going to furnish the requisite easy going for crosscountry racing, and the result- of the Clarkin Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase at Te Rapa on Monday may be that one or two more will have to be gut aside until easier tracks prevail, me fancied candidate in the north is Little Briton, who' has schooled; /brilliantly over the country' this week and should,knovicit.well. . ~ - • An iiiterestiiig enirant -for the two-year-old event on the r second day of ther Waikato Meeting js, Royal Descent, the half-brother by Beau Pere to High Caste. He is an, impressive youngster who has displayed' a lot of.promise:in his try-outs, and "his debut on MbndaywiUbV followed by more'than the average interest in view of the fact that he has. made a noise when galloping. It will be a great pity if this affliction should become such as to spoil-his racing career. As usual there will be , the / usual gathering'of the best hacks offerihg in; the Waikato Hack Cup, the mile contest scheduled for Monday at Te Rapa: This is one 6t ': the most important contests for, the minor, class staged in the province, although it is not the richest, yet: the field 'brought together is usually better than that lining up in similar events. Often horses are kept fresh for this race, and among them on this occasion, are Kaspian, Devon, and Veritable.
