JAPANESE THREAT

MAIN LIFELINE WELL AWAY

POSITION IN YUNNAN

(By Telegraph—Press Associations-Copyright.)

(Received November 18, 2.35 p.m.)

HONG KONG, November 17.

The Japanese claim to be consolidating their control, of the Yamhsien area. They straddle the Pakhoi-Nan-ning Road 60 miles from the main Indo-China highway but the chief motor and rail lifeline is 6QO miles inland. Foreign military experts do not believe the Japanese intend to make a major drive in the Yunnan Province but to consolidate a new control of Kwangtung preparatory to the proclamation of Mr. Wang Ching-wei, Governor in Central China.
