The feature event of the second day's racing at Riccarton on Monday will be the Derby, in which Beauhvre promises to touch a very short price. As Anita Foe struck herself during the rough passage south last Monday, there is a doubt about her running in the Oaks on Wednesday. When Lusson won the South Australian Derby at Morphettville last month, he provided the veteran Flemington trainer J Scobie with his nineteenth blue riband success. Six of the nineteen have been secured at Morphettville.
if Disturbed performed up to expectations at Stratford today, he will be sent to Avondale for the hurdling events next weekend. Now racing in Tasmania, the Gascony—Orozino gelding Black Friar, who was a winner as a juvenile in the Dominion when owned by Mrs. M. S. Curie, was recently successful in a seven-furlong welter event, for which he started favourite.""
According to advice received at Trentham, T.R. George is expected to leave Melbourne on his return to the Dominion with Beau Vite next Wednesday.
The. leading, trainer for the season up till the commencement of today's racing was 1. T. Tinsley, of Gisborne, who has already scored 14 successes with his useful team. Second on the list was L. G. Morris with nine points.
Handicaps for the Levin Racing Club's Meeting, to be held on November 18, are due to appear on Tuesday.
The Strowan Plate at Riccarton on Monday is for maiden horses at time of starting, and Hearth, who figured among the nominations, is therefore no longer eligible to run. The English-bred Papyrus—-Tan-belle colt' imported by Mr, T. Coltman, of Wellington, and at present in the paddock at H. A. Telford's stable at Trentham, is shortly to be put into training.
The name of Soutane has been claimed for a yearling full-sister to the recent Trentham winner Black Robe She is also owned by Mr. H. McManaway, her breeder.
The Fordell trainer D. Marks, who had his team at Stratford today, has Taurangi, Scandal, and Ruatiti nominated for the two concluding days of the C.J.C. Meeting, 0 and it is possible that they will be taken south early next week if they have performed up to expectations at Stratford.
Twelve months ago J. H. Jefferd produced Baran to win a juvenile double at Riccarton after^ that colt had failed in two starts at the Wellington Meeting, and it is interesting to observe that the stable has another Bulandshar ■ colt, in .Knurja on the scene at Riccarton for the later days this year. Baran did not run on Gup Day, and Khurja, who also failed at Trentham, has likewise missed today's Welcome
