STRATFORD MEETING

FIELDS OF GOOD QUALITY

The Stratford Tiaci.ig Club's Spring Meeting tomorrow is an innovation for this club, which has previously used the extra permit it secured some years ago for an autumn fixture. The new date, coming between the Labour Day and Christmas holidays, has evidently been appreciated by Taranaki owners and trainers, as excellent fields of good quality have accepted throughout the card. The Stratford course is undulating, with a slightly uphill' straight, and this is appreciated by horses With a mea- ] sure of stamina. Tomorrow's going, after recent rain, will be on the easy I side. The betting has gone back to the win-and-place system. . The main event of the day is the Stratford Handicap, which will serve the proved stayers such as Wotan, Friesland, Entail, and Windsor Chief, theugh Friesland is one who might benefit with the race, his first for some time. Taurangi ran well enough at Trentham to have a good chance also, for she has shown ability previously to get a middle distance. Kaiwaka is a recruit from hack ranks who will appreciate the weight off his back if started here. The following horses are likely to be in favour!— Trial Stakes: Val Pere, Young Charles, Mahaina.
