COAL MINES IDLE

MEN RETURN TO THEIR

HOMES

(By 'leWraph—l'rcss Association.) GREYMOUTH, This Day. The James and Strongman State mines were both idle today as the result of a dispute. Yesterday two truckers at the James mine, who allegedly "knocked off" early on Wednesday, were stood down for the day. They were accompanied home by 24 work mates, the mine continuing to work short-staffed. This morning these 24 men and boys were stood down for the day, with the result that all work mates returned home. As the Strongman mine utilises the same rope road, it is automatically idle.
