TOWN PLANNING

PROGRESS REVIEWED

MINISTER'S ADDRESS

Mr. Parry said that the main purpose of the meeting was to consider four general town-planning :s^fieines which had now reached an advanced stage that provisional approval was sought. In connection with the Christchurch scheme, he understood that most points had now been cleared up, and he hoped that it would be possible to reach some finality on this long-standing difficulty.

Since the board last met. the model clauses, designed to serve as a/guide to local authorities in the preparation of their town-planning .schemes, had been Released, the Minister continued, and he thov^ght their release had been a major factor in speeding up the preparation of schemes and. should produce much better results in the near future. 'The outbreak of war had changed the situation with regard to town-plan-ning legislation, ;to.\ which /much thought and time had been,;given; to secure a greater measure of,activiity. In the meantime, Mr. Parry- added, he could only urge members to utilise to the fullest extent the machinery of ; the present legislation and, with the added advantage of the model clauses, make such progress in town planning as^vas possible in the circumstances. \aX.Xj The board placed on. record- its X appreciation of the services; given to the board and to town planning : generally by Mr. J.
