HUTT VALLEY CLUB
■'• The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Swimming and Life-saving Club was- held -on Monday, Mr. H.-.'B.'. Edwards occupying the chair. The report showed that the ;unfavourable weather last-season had resulted in: a drop in mentbershlp but the Standard 'of swimming, had improved. The club carnival had been a' distinct success from both the' swimming and the financial • point of: view. ' There had been two .contests.for; the Fenwick Memorial Shield, and in both the club, had been successful:
, The individual winner' of the Peck harbour race was.'Mr. R. Kent, a member of the club. The winner of the Wellington. : Centre : men'a diving championship. was Mr. K. Tuppen, and the- 100 yds ladies' freestyle,champion was Miss. W. Pritchard, both members ■■. of the club. ; 7The. chairman said the. Lower Hutt -Boi-ough Council had been "generous- with • help to. * the club,- and Mr. N. N. Oldershaw spoke of the assistance given by Mrs. I\ Cooper. The balance-sheet showed'that the year had commenced with a.credit of £19 6s sd, and closed with a credit., of £16. 5s lid. The gate takings at the carnival* were £29 ,6s .6d.. The following Were elected to -office:—President, Mr. &. T. Duniean; patirbn, Mr. E. P. hay; vice-presidents, same as last; year.; secretary, Mr. N..-N. Oldershaw; treasurer, Mr. J. Wasley; medical officers, Drs., H. W. Nash and P. Bolt; auditor, Mr. G. F. Judd; club captain,. Mr. H. Warburton; vice-captain, Mr. G. Baifour; delegates to Wellington Centre, Messrs. H.E.. Edwards and H. Warburton; polo coach, Mr. G. Balfour; swimming coaches, Messrs. C. Richardson and H. Warburton; ladies' committee, Mrs. F. Cooper and, Misses J. Grant and W. Pritchard; men's committee, Messrs. H. E. Edwards, D. A. Wright; J. Aldrich, 1.. Jenness, J. Sellars, A. Rogers, C. Watson -Munro, D. Lines, and G. McDonald; assistant secretary, Mir. D., Brown; diving coaches, Messrs. T. Greehem and R. Tuppen. Messrs. M. Jamieson,. H. Wright, and R. Milne were elected life1 members. ■,- ; . The. opening day ;was fixed for. November. 18. The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews,, was Invited ito perform the opening ceremony, and the Hon. \V.: "Nash and the chairman „of the Wellington Centre were invited to' speak.
