WOMEN POLICE
POSITION EXPLAINED

WANGANUI, This Day,
Explaining in an interview today the- position regarding the appointment of women police in New Zealand the Commissioner of Police, Mr. -D...J. Cummings, who is visiting Wanganui, said that much would depend on the type of candidate offering. Legislation was passed last year giving authority for the appointment of women to the force. He had investigated the system thoroughly On his recent visit to Australia and had made a report to the Minister in Charge of the Police Department, the Hon. P. Fraser. .The Minister himself would make further investigations during his visit to England. When he returned the question of making appointments would be considered.
