During the storm at midday on Monday a heavy fall of snow was experienced on the high levels behind the Tarndale Station, in the back- district of Whatatutu, states a Gisborne correspondent. It was reported that the snowflakes were particularly large and that the ground was white oa the shady sides of the hills. The -fall was not of long duration, however, and the flakes soon began to melt. The cold which accompanied the storm .caused some concern among owners of newlyshorn sheep, and the most sheltered spots available have been sought for the animals. There are large numbers of shorn sheep in the district at present and the sudden ■ drop in temperature, accompanied by a strong gals, caused owners to take special precautions against loss.
