N.Z. PILOT KILLED

SQUADRON-LEADER LAMB

TOOK PART IN KIEL CANAL

RAID

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

■ MASTERTON, This' Day. Advice was received today that Squadron-Leader Lennox Lamb, son

of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Lamb, of Masterton, was killed yesterday.

Squadron-Leader Lamb had an audience with the King early in September, following" the British air raid on the Kiel Canal, in which he played a conspicuous part.

Squadron-Leader Lamb was in New Zealand on'furlough in the middle of 1934. At that time he was stationed in Irak, having been transferred there 15 months previously from England. His term with the R.A.F. was due to expire in October, 1935,, and he hoped then to take up civil aviation. Subsequently he returned to England, and in 1937 he attended the flying instructors' course at the Central Flying School and was listed as an instructor. He was a grandson of the late Mr. W. T. Grundy, for many years headmaster of Clyde Quay School.

Today the Tamahine brought nearly 900 passengers from Picton on a special Marlborough Anniversary Day excursion. She arrived at 30.35 and was due to leave on the return trip at 4.30 this afternoon.

The Wingatui, which has been on the floating dock for repairs and overhaul, was to have come off about 4 o'clock this afternoon.
