FAKED FIGHTS

AMERICAN ALLEGATIONS

LEADING BOXERS INVOLVED

CHICAGO, October 30,

The Illinois State Athletic Commission today barred Tony Galento, Max Schmeling, and Harry Thomas, with the managers Joe Jacobs and Nat, E. Lewis, from further fights pending a gubernatorial (governor's) inquiry. The Chicago "Tribune" published alleged affidavits in which Thomas says that by an arrangement between Lewis and Jacobs his fights with Schmeling on December 13, 1937, and with Galento on November 14, 1938, were faked in order to build up the reputation of challengers' seeking bouts, Joe Louis says he received 8500 dollars for "taking a dive" and that Schmeling was promised 6000 dollars to meet Galento.
