(Received October 30, 12.10 p.m.)

PARIS, October 29,

A hundred thousand "old soldiers" inarched from barracks and returned to civilian life while icy rain, snow, and mud and' rising rivers enforced calm on all parts of the front. The demobilised men have been ordered to be ready to return to the colours instantly. Officers and specialists among them are remaining with the colours. The" start of the demobilisation indicates that the High Command is confident of carrying out the campaign, using machines more than men, with the Maginot fortress troops, and is ready to take the shock of any German offensive.
